Enterprise 2009We visited Ercall Woods on Tuesday as part of our enterprise which we have been working on for several weeks. We learned how companies work and the various departments they have. We explored and identified our skills and how they would fit into a company. Next we had to write job applications and were allocated jobs by Mrs Boyiatjis who was the Human Resources Manager. We had to plan our trip to the woods by ourselves and developed our skills at the same time, and learned new ones. The Project Management Dept were in overall charge. They had to design a logo, give our company a name and make letter headed paper for all our correspondence. They found out how many adults we would have to take with us and wrote letters to invite them. They helped any group with any problems that came up.
The Navigation Dept had to find maps and plan the best route to get us there safely. The Medical Dept researched any medical problems that could happen on the trip and learned how to deal with them. They organised the first aid bag to take with us. It was the Science Dept's job to organise activities for each group to do in the woods and gather all the resources and worksheets that we would need. We did bark rubbing, measuring width, height and age of trees, we had a texture hunt, identified trees by their leaves and bark using a key and collected leaves to use in an art lesson later.
The Archive Dept learned to use video cameras and digital cameras in order to record the planning of the enterprise and also events on the day. Sometimes we had problems to solve, like when the Medical Dept were not happy about children touching things for the Texture hunt. They made the Project Manager write a letter to parents asking if their children had any allergies, they all wrote back to us and no one minded us touching things as long as we took baby wipes with us and cleaned our hands afterwards. Mrs Spence, the school nurse got them for us.
We all had a great day and were very proud of our achievements. |
