Health Week - 28th January to 1st February 2008

Last week was health week in school. It was so interesting but we had a lot of fun learning about it. Mr Tuff from The St Andrews Ambulance Brigade came to class. He was explaining about first aid and how we can help people if they collapse in the street from a heart-attack or something. First we have to check they are breathing and that they don't have anything stuck in their throats. Then, we can give them CPR

CPR is when you press down on someones chest to help them to breathe when they are unconscious. It can help them to breathe while the amulance is on it's way. You mustn't do this for a game because it is very serious and you could hurt someone if you don't know how to do it properly. We practised on a dummy called Annie. It was quite difficult because you have to press down quite hard but you have to do it just in the right place and just at the right speed.

Also in health week, we learned about eating properly. Eating 5 fruit or vegetables each day is very important to help keep you healthy. You also need to eat sensibly and get some exercise. Mrs Sheridan, our classroom assistant, showed us how baking can be really fun and can help us to eat healthily. She showed us how to make Banana Muffins. Not only were they delicious, but they are good for you.
