Literacy Week 2009

It's literacy Week and we had the author Lari Don in to visit us. She read some quotes from her book First Aid for Fairies and told us what it was like writing it from the initial idea right through to the end. She gave us lots of ideas and tips which are going to help us in our own writing. She has a very interesting web site.

We made our favourite book characters using collage material. We also made our own book covers including all the elements needed such as quotes, blurbs, illustrations, IBSN numbers etc.

Every day we stop what we are doing and just enjoy reading our books for 15 minutes, even Mrs Boyiatjis! We really enjoy reading. Its going to be a great week.
Our class book is The Folk of the Faraway Tree, we are drawing the characters as we are introduced to them and adding them to our own Magic Faraway Tree.

Mrs Boyiatjis read The Far Away Tree when she was a wee girl and she really enjoyed it.

The peoples Puppets came to school today and all the children enjoyed learning the Easter Story through games and songs. Angus was there dancing to the beat!

As part of our literacy week we had a book character parade. Lots of the children dressed up, here are a few. The class winner was Rochelle, she dressed up as Judy Moody.
