World of Work Week 2010

Its World of Work Week next week and we have already had a visitor. Lorainne from the Dogs Trust and her dog Bonnie came to tell us all about the work they do, and how to look after a dog properly.

Donny from Dog's Trust

Angus has met Donny before. Donny was here a couple of years ago and Alessia was coming his hair.

It's always fun when Mr Davidson, the Optician from Boots, comes to visit. He tells us all about being an optician and lets Angus try on some glasses. He really liked these blue-rimmed glasses because they match his hat

Mrs Mclean and Mrs Swinney are hairderssers and they visited the school this week. You can see Mrs McLean here with some Guinnea Pigs willing volunteers. Angus looks really braw in his perm curlers.

Alessia took Angus with her to all the P7 workshops and he got to meet old and new friends. Alessia was in Angus' class two years ago and she made the logo for this website which you can see always at the top left hand side of the page.

Mrs Nicol, Mrs Bankier and Mrs Hinton from School Nursing service visited us this week too. Angus is talking to their skeleton because it has no-body to talk to.

Just how long has he been waiting?

Mr Murray from INEOS visited Pr4s again this year to tell them about the safety equipment they use. We had a great chance to try on some of the safety clothes and equipment. It looks like a lot of fun but it is very important for safety reasons. Mr Murray is a regular visitor and always gives very informative and fun talks.

Mr McQuade who has been a firefighter for over 23 years, came to visit the school today and brought his fire appliance with him. He told us how important it was to have a fire alarm in our house and have a fire plan. We know how to keep our house safe now.

Mrs Reid and Mr Simpson from RHET visited Pr4s/5s. They told us all about the different types of farms in Scotland. Mrs Reid brought in samples of diffferent crops and Mr Simpson explained how they are grown and harvested. Mrs Reid has a dairy farm and has to work very hard looking after the cows and calfs and milking twice a day.

Apart from all the great things above, and more visitors to the school, some of the classes went on field trips. Pr3/2 went to ASDA in Falkirk and saw all the jobs involved in a superstore. Pr4/3 went to Meadowbank Library to find out about the jobs that librarians do. The whole "world of Work" week was informative and enjoyable.
